“To have another language is to possess a second soul.” ‒Charlemagne
Coming to China was a big deal for me. I love traveling, and I’ve always wanted to live in Asia. So, when we got the word that we were coming here, I was really excited to step outside of my comfort zone and try something new. I specifically wanted to make learning Mandarin my priority, and Miracle Mandarin has helped me with that way more than I ever could have hoped.
Everyone here has been welcoming and extremely friendly. I’ve attended a couple of the cultural lessons and parties here as well, and as a result the school has proven to be a really comfortable social center I can go to when I sometimes feel overwhelmed in this giant city.
My classes have always been small enough that the lessons have felt very personalized allowing me to learn at my own pace, and the teachers have always been more than willing to go back over something if it was difficult to understand. I feel as though learning the language has made my time in China infinitely more meaningful because it has helped me understand not only what people are saying but also, I think, given me some small insight into the way that the people I’ve met here think.
So for all of my adventures in this great country — hitting all of the major tourist sites, walking through hundreds of wet markets, malls, fake malls, and food streets; teaching a group of 6 & 7-year-old kids at a Chinese elementary school, climbing picturesque mountains, and hitchhiking around Yunnan Provence– thank you Miracle Mandarin for making it easier.
