How did the name Miracle Mandarin come? It’s interesting that the name was given to us by a former student. When the two founders started a test Chinese reading program among expats in Shanghai in year 2003, the school did not have a specific name. A 70 year old student from the United States David Kingston who had never learn Chinese before took the program and in a month he got familiar with over 200 characters, and was even able to write simple Chinese sentences. He was very surprised and said: “I did not expect at this age I’d still be able to learn Chinese. But not only I can learn to speak Chinese, I can even write Chinese characters! This truly is a miracle!”
