In China, there are a lot of traditional routines to do before and during the Chinese New Year. If you are interested in adopting any of the local customs, just follow these tips:

Decorate your house
People usually have a cleaning in their homes before Spring Festival, especially on the 28th day of the twelfth month (February 6 in 2016). It means the dirt will go away with the bad luck of the previous year and everything will be brand-new.
Prepare lucky money
Married couples usually put money in red envelopes and give them to unmarried adults and children. However, older and more traditional Chinese with large families practice the tradition of giving out lucky money to younger members of the family whether they are married or not.
Have a new year’s eve banquet
Chinese New Year is always a family affair. The whole clan gathers for dinner on new year’s eve. If you belong to a big family, the dinner is a banquet with nine dishes signifying longevity and long life.
