Hello,
 
My name is Michael, from Melbourne, Australia and I am a recent Accounting Graduate. I have been in Shanghai for 4 months and have been studying Chinese at Miracle Mandarin for just over 3 months full time.
 
I came to Shanghai because I believe this city has a lot more opportunities than my home city, but not only that I have always wanted to learn a new language and experience something that very few people have experienced. Moreover I have friends in Shanghai so I thought why not come here, and try and learn the second most used language in the world?
The city is unlike anything I have experienced in Australia, Shanghai has so much life that it can be hard to put into words, it really is something that you need to experience for yourself. To put things into perspective, Shanghai has more people than my entire country, and with the amount of people that live here, it’s no surprise that there are so many things to do, from fine dining to extravagant nightlife, it’s all here!
How about the food? Food varies a lot in Shanghai, you can eat a filling delicious Chinese meal for less than 10 RMB if you know where to look, and then there are fine dining where prices can easily be in the thousands. No matter your budget, there is always something delicious to be had here.
 
I heard about Miracle Mandarin through a friend, it has a great reputation amongst motivated expats who want to learn Chinese in the shortest time period possible. I figured if I am going to learn Chinese, I may as well do it quickly as it can be daunting being in a new city / country and not being able to interact with the people here, even trying to order McDonalds at first was a daunting experience.
I have been studying for 3 months and I am very proud of my Chinese level at the moment, from landing in Shanghai and not being able to speak a word of Chinese other than Ni Hao, to haggling for goods, having basic conversations with friends to ordering food. I do have a long way to go, but I am confident that sticking with this course will get me to where I want to be; and fast!
All the teachers and staff have been extremely helpful and have gone above and beyond in making my Chinese studies go as smooth as possible.
 
I definitely think my Chinese has improved a lot, as I said before I came here speaking nothing and now I can have conversations and bargain for things. It is no longer a daunting experience going to the supermarket or ordering food at a restaurant because I know I have enough tools in my linguistic arsenal to get most of my thoughts across.
