Some Chinese adjectives can be reduplicated to indicate a higher degree. The reduplicated form for monosyllabic adjectives is AA, of which the second syllable may be retroflexed.
汉语有些形容词可以重叠使用，表示程度深。单音节形容词的重叠形式是AA，口语中第二个音节可以儿化。
eg:
Tā yǒu gāogāo de bízi, huánghuáng de tóufa.
他 有 高高 的 鼻子，黄黄 的 头发。
He has very high nose and blonde hair.
Zhèli de shān gāogāo de, shuǐ lǜlǜ de.
这里 的 山 高高 的，水 绿绿 的。
The mountain here is very high, and the water is very clear.
The reduplicated form for disyllabic adjective is AABB, in which the second syllable may be neutralized with a neutral tone. For example: gāogāoxìngxìng, piàopiàoliàngliàng. When a reduplicated disyllabic adjective functions as adverbial, “de” is usually added after it.
双音节形容词的重叠式为：AABB。重叠后第二个音节可以读轻声。如：高高兴兴，漂漂亮亮等，作状语时一般要带“地”。
eg:
Tā gāogāoxìngxìng de duì wǒ shuō: wǒ jiù yào jiéhūn le.
他 高高兴兴 地 对 我 说： 我 就 要 结婚 了。
He said to me happily: I am getting married.
