What are measure words? Let me give you an example: a piece of cake. We call “piece” a measure word. And in Chinese we say “piece” as “kuài”. A measure word always precedes a noun, if it is modified by a numeral, the pronoun “this”, “that”, “which” or “how many”, otherwise measure words is not used. There are hundreds of measure words in Chinese. Different measure words have different usage, which may make non-Chinese native speakers confused. Never mind! You know practice makes perfect. 什么是量词？下面将举例说明：a piece of cake（一块蛋糕）。我们说的“piece”就是一个量词。相当于汉语里边的“块”。一个量词经常放在一个名词的前面, 被一个数词修饰或被指示代词“这”“那”以及疑问代词“哪”和“几”修饰。汉语里边有数百个量词。不同的量词有不同的用法；很多非中国人也常常将这些用法混淆。不要灰心！熟能生巧。只要你每天都在这里学习，你就会确定：量词？只是个小意思。
