About HSK
Chinese Proficiency Test, Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi in Chinese, known as HSK, is a standardized test designed and developed by the State HSK Commission under Chinese Ministry of Education to assess the Chinese language proficiency of non-native speakers.
Functions of HSK Certificates
- To certify that you have obtained the required Chinese proficiency to enter a college or university in China as an undergraduate or graduate student;
- To certify that you have obtained the required Chinese proficiency and thus may be exempted from taking certain Chinese language courses in your institution in the United States (if your institution agrees);
- To serve as a reference when you apply for a job position that requires a certain level of Chinese competency;
- To test your Chinese proficiency if you are learning the language.
Types of HSK and a descriptive statement of the tests:
1) HSK Basic (levels 1, 2, 3)
400-3000 basic Chinese words as well as the corresponding rules of grammar.
2) HSK Elementary (levels 3, 4, 5), Intermediate (levels 6, 7, 8)
2000-5000 Chinese words as well as the corresponding rules of grammar.
3) HSK Advanced (levels 9, 10, 11)
more than 5000 Chinese words as well as the corresponding rules of grammar.
